Great outdoors: The Ramblers Association has vowed to fight ...
(News & Star) Ramblers across Cumbria are to join forces in the fight against wind turbines as part of a national campaign to stop their march across the countryside. The move is in direct contrast to calls from other groups such as Greenpeace, who support windfarm developments.

Plugging Into Wind Power
(KELOLAND TV) Did you ever wonder why wind energy towers dot the landscape in Minnesota, but stop at the South Dakota border? That is about to change after an announcement made Thursday in Sioux Falls. Raimond Grube, PPM Energy says, "I'd like to thank you all very much for coming out here for this groundbreaking announcement for the MinnDakota wind project." The future of wind farming in South Dakota is 150 towers that will be built on the South Dakota, Minnesota border just east of Brookings.

Call for tough line on wind farms
(BBC News) A petition is calling on the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) to push for wind farm developments to be suspended in the UK. Internet lobby group Proact, which co-ordinates wildlife campaigns, said it has collected 3,248 signatures. Proact's David Conlin said the society does not go "far enough" in opposing wind developments.

Wind power can help fight global warming
(Hexham Courant) "I bought two newspapers on Friday, the Independant and the Hexham Courant. The former reported that we have 10 years to save the planet from the dire effects of global warming. The latter invited me to vote yes or no to large scale windfarms in Tynedale. Previous press reports have indicated that climate change is already killing people in huge numbers, particularly in the third world. Recent surveys have shown that over 90 per cent of climatologists are of the opinion that the situation will get worse relatively quickly."

Tallest wind turbines on site at Eastman factory
(Times & Star) Cumbria's tallest wind turbines have begun to be erected at a Workington factory this week. The two turbines, each 108 metres from the ground to the blade tip, are being built at the Eastman site, formerly known as Voridian, next to the A596 Workington to Maryport road.

India will electrify 25.000 villages based on renewable energy
(Windtech International) According to the Indian Minister for Non-conventional Energy Sources, Vilas Muttemwar, his Ministry will in the coming years electrify 25.000 villages in remote areas with renewable energy sources. The government programme is part of a major rural electrification programme.

Manitoba Progresses Toward 1,000 MW Wind Target
(RenewableEnergyAccess.com) Manitoba Hydro will issue a request for proposals later this year for new wind projects totaling 300 megawatts (MW). Manitoba's 1,000-MW wind strategy is expected to generate $2 billion in investment, $100 million in wind-rights payments to landowners, and $150 million in property taxes to local municipalities.

Still Blowing in the Wind
(Hawaii Reporter) For more than 13 centuries mankind has been trying to capture the wind for energy production and other uses. In agrarian societies even into the 19th century such intermittent unpredictable energy was still useful for pumping water, grinding grain, and other forms of drudgery. The history of energy development from those days is heading for more electrical energy use which is highly refined, highly controlled, and much more reliable.
