DTE orders Lakers to shut down turbines
(Huron Daily Tribune) Just as the three wind turbines by Elkton-Pigeon-Bay Port Laker Elementary School only recently started spinning after a long wait, those involved with the turbine project are facing difficulties with DTE Energy - and it's making their heads spin. "DTE personnel have demanded that these turbines be shut down immediately and not restarted until (a) seven-week study is completed, the school district pays for the upgrading of DTE equipment, and that equipment is installed by DTE personnel," said Laker Interim Superintendent Bob Drury in a press release.

Greenpeace pushes wind energy

Hundreds pack chambers to oppose wind turbines
(Leamington Post) Nearly 300 people attended a Leamington Council meeting Monday night to oppose a wind farm project for Lake Erie, that would see 59 wind turbines just east of Leamington marina. The total project proposes 119 wind turbines in Pigeon Bay, including locations just off Kingsville and Union.

Despite protests, wind farm projects picking up speed
(The Reporter) Area wind farm projects have started breezing along at a quicker pace. Developers are wrapping up the details and planning construction schedules on three projects in Fond du Lac County: Forward Wind Energy Center, Cedar Ridge Wind Farm and Blue Sky Green Field Wind Project. Combined, the projects will host 253 turbines and provide up to 380 megawatts of power.

RP has highest wind power potential in SEA
(INQ7.net) The Philippines is estimated to have the highest wind energy potential in Southeast Asia, a recently released report by a global wind energy sector forum said. The Global Wind Energy Council's Global Wind Energy Outlook 2006 noted that despite this potential, to date, only one wind farm, a 25-megawatt (MW) facility in Ilocos Norte, exists.

Nelson Mandela Bay pursues wind, waste energy plan
(Engineering News ) The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, in the Eastern Cape, has signed a memorandum of understanding with three successful bidders to implement an ambitious R9-billion renewable-energy programme. The three bidders are the Lereko Energy Consortium (focusing on wind-energy, solar heating, and electricity generation from waste), Thermo-Rec (electricity generation from solid waste) and Enercon India (wind energy).
