State wants rules to protect birds from windmills
(Central Valley Business Times) The California Energy Commission will host a two-day workshop in Bakersfield later this month to develop statewide guidelines that protect birds and bats from death or injury from running into the whirling blades of the state's thousands of windmills.

New survey shows Californians support wind energy
(Phoenix Business Journal) California has taken the lead when it comes to clean-energy initiatives, but as of the second quarter it fell behind Texas in wind power capacity. State residents are in favor of expanding the state's wind energy production, according to a new survey. More than 83 percent of respondents to a survey conducted by a California State University-Sacramento professor said they were in favor of expanding wind farms.

China and India trying to harness the power of wind
(International Herald Tribune) China and India are accelerating development of wind power, luring companies including the turbine maker Vestas Wind Systems, as restrictions hamper wind farm construction in traditional markets like Australia. "The biggest markets in the next decade will probably be India and China in particular," said Achim Hoehne, a manager at the PB Power unit of the engineering services company Parsons Brinckerhoff.

Indian wind power market likely to quadruple
(India Infoline.com) Vilas Muttemwar, the Minister of State for Non-Conventional Energy Sources, said that India expects to about quadruple wind energy generation capacity by 2012 as it seeks alternative fuels to oil, gas & coal The Minister of State for Non-Conventional Energy Sources, Vilas Muttemwar said on Wednesday that India expects to about quadruple wind energy generation capacity by 2012 as it seeks alternative fuels to oil, gas & coal.

USA & Sweden. Cargo vessel BBC India delivers giant wind turbine ...
(BYM News (press release)) A cargo ship from Sweden, the BBC India, is expected to arrive at the Duluth Harbor carrying a shipment of windmill blades, turbines and equipment that when assembled will become the largest wind energy facility in North Dakota.

Wind power to save school $200,000 yearly
(Worcester Telegram) Holy Name Central Catholic Junior/Senior High School has an intriguing plan to capture the wind that swirls around its building on the top of Granite Street with a 164-foot wind turbine between the high school and its notoriously blustery football field. Planning for project is in the early stages, but the nonpolluting electrical generator could save the school up to $200,000 a year in electricity costs.

New Maui wind farm seeks to double in size
(Honolulu Star-Bulletin) Just a few months after the state's largest wind farm started spinning electrical power on Maui, its owners are considering doubling it in size. In June, Kaheawa Wind Power began operating 20 wind turbines that can generate up to 30 megawatts of electricity on the windy slopes above Maalaea Harbor. Now the company is asking the state Board of Land and Natural Resources for a lease on a 325-acre parcel of state land immediately west of the 200-acre parcel it currently occupies.

Two more wind turbines get March council approval
(Peterborough Evening Telegraph) A pair of wind turbines on farmland near March have been given the go-ahead despite opposition from conservationists. Fenland District Council's planning committee agreed to allow the pair of 67-metre turbines subject to a Section 106 agreement. This is in addition to plans for three turbines on the same site, north-east of Ransonmoor Farm, Benwick Road, Doddington, which were approved last year.

Wind power has potential, says report
(The West Australian) Wind power will be a major contributor to man's future energy needs, with the potential to provide more than a third of the world's electricity by 2050, a new report says.Launched by Greenpeace and the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC), the report said wind power was second only to solar power as the world's fastest growing energy source.
