Energy review ignores climate change 'tipping point'
The world only has 10 years to develop and implement new technologies to generate clean electricity before climate change reaches a point of no return, something the British government has failed to appreciate in its energy review, according to an energy expert. The UK must embark on a strategy to reduce energy use by insulating homes better and encouraging more micro-generation schemes, such as solar panels or biomass, Peter Smith, a professor of sustainable energy at the University of Nottingham, told the British Association festival of science in Norwich today.

BP to Work With Governor Schwarzenegger To Implement Climate Change Legislation
BP America will work with California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger to develop workable, market based strategies for implementation of climate change legislation to reduce greenhouse gas emissions throughout California. Governor Schwarzenegger is expected to sign the legislation into law in the near future. "After speaking with Governor Schwarzenegger, I believe that, through his leadership, a fully functioning market will become an integral part of the system to reduce greenhouse gas emissions," said BP Group Chief Executive John Browne.

Wind farm firm plans $5.4m IPO
Wind power generator Wind Hydrogen Ltd will seek to raise $5.4 million in capital to develop its wind farm portfolio ahead of floating on the Australian Stock Exchange. The renewable energy company said it would issue 12 million shares at 45 cents a share in a capital raising due to take place this month. The funds will partly be used for pre-construction work at wind farm projects awaiting approval, as well as to prepare submissions for more advanced projects, and secure rights for projects in the pipeline.

Turkey boosts wind energy capacity
Turkey has boosted its alternative energy credentials with the opening of a wind energy facility in the north western city of Bandirma Monday. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan was on hand at the official opening ceremony of the Bandirma Wind Power Plant. “Turkey is very rich in alternative energy resources,” he said in his address at the ceremony. “This power plant proves this.”
